Review: Captivate (Need #2) by Carrie Jones

Synopsis: Zara and her friends knew they hadn't solved the pixie problem for good. Far from it. The king's needs grow deeper every day he's stuck in captivity, while his control over his people gets weaker. It's made him vulnerable. And now there's a new king in town. A turf war is imminent, since the new pixie king, Astley, is moving in quickly. Nick nearly killed him in the woods on day one, but Zara came to his rescue. Astley swears that he and Zara are destined to be together, that he's one of the good guys. Nick isn't buying it, though Zara isn't as sure -- despite herself, she wants to trust the new king. But it's a lot more than her relationship with Nick that is at stake. It's her life -- and his. Source   Review Plot: I was so excited to finally get back into the world of pixies when I bought Captivate. I was not disappointed when I was instantly dropped back into the war with the pixies. It was refreshing to have new and old character...

Movie Review: Conan the Barbarian (2011)

Synopsis:  The tale of Conan the Cimmerian and his adventures across the continent of Hyboria on a quest to avenge the murder of his father and the slaughter of his village.  Source Plot: Everyone knows about the original Conan the Barbarian (1982) that had Arnold Schwarzenegger, right? Well... Honestly, I've never seen it (I know... bad me.. /depression corner..), but I'm grading this movie solely as a movie on its own. Regardless of the fact that this was a remake, I'm treating as its own. With that said, let's begin! This movie was... interesting? The plot was fairly easy to follow. It began with the origins of Conan and following into the story line of Conan seeking vengeance for the death of his Father and his tribe. Tainted by the fact that his first victim was his Mother, there was never any... relations to the fact that his Mother had died to give birth to him, yet is there any back plot of resent from the Father? Was this typical during that [possible] time ...

Review: The Goddess Test (Goddess Test #1) by Aimee Carter

Synopsis: It's always been just Kate and her mom—and her mother is dying. Her last wish? To move back to her childhood home. So Kate's going to start at a new school with no friends, no other family and the fear her mother won't live past the fall. Then she meets Henry. Dark. Tortured. And mesmerizing. He claims to be Hades, god of the Underworld—and if she accepts his bargain, he'll keep her mother alive while Kate tries to pass seven tests. Kate is sure he's crazy—until she sees him bring a girl back from the dead. Now saving her mother seems crazily possible. If she succeeds, she'll become Henry's future bride, and a goddess. Source Review Plot: I'm a huge fan of adaptions, including ones that involve Greek mythology. This book really surprised me, I thought that stepping into the history of the gods was a bit dangerous. Since I studied Greek mythology, I was hesitant if they would bring up the dark situations that revolve around the gods. I was happ...

{Friday Round-Up} Book Blogger Hop :: Follow Friday :: TGIF

Q: Let’s talk crazy book titles! Highlight one or two (or as many as you like!) titles in your personal collection that have the most interesting titles! If you can’t find any, feel free to find one on the internet! A: I'll stay true and look at my bookshelf. I don't have any crazy titles, but one that I got for my birthday is The Element Encyclopedia of Vampires: An A-Z of the Undead by Theresa Cheung . My sister bought it for me since she said this is "exactly" what I needed. Q: How has your reading habits changed since you were a teen? or If you are still a teen what new genres are you in love with currently? A: I love romance! I think that I'm a hopeless romantic, so I NEED romance. I can't get into a book if it has absolutely no romance. I've always been into urban fantasy, romance, and Young Adult, but I think I'm getting into more historical fiction. Q: Author Block Party: If you could gather a handful of authors to hang out with, who would you ...

{Friday Round-Up} Book Blogger Hop :: Follow Friday :: TGIF

Q: What is the one ARC you would love to get your hands on right now? A: That's so hard! I have to say that probably Silence (Hush, Hush #3) by Becca Fitzpatrick is the one I want the most. I haven't even gotten the chance to read Crescendo yet, but I loved Hush, Hush and am hooked into this series. The covers, the writing, the characters, the plot...everything! I would love to have this ARC! Q: Talk about the book that most changed or influenced your life (was it a book that turned you from an average to avid reader, did it help you deal with a particularly difficult situation, does it bring you comfort every time you read it?).   A: I would have to say that the Twilight Saga is what influenced my life. I read the series around three years ago before the movies came out. During that time, my family was going through so much and it was hard to handle it. I didn't have that much support to go to and I was confused as to my position and my health. I got hooked to Twilight bec...

Top Ten Tuesdays: Trends You'd Like To See More of/Less of

TTT is a weekly meme held by The Broke and Bookish . This week is over trends we want to see more or less of. I split my up with the first five being the ones I want to see more of and the second half being the ones I don't want to see more of. Trends I Want 1. Greek Mythology - I love Greek mythology and would love to see it interpreted into books. You barely see them in books nowadays. If it had a nice modern twist on it, plus romance...perfection! 2. Minority main characters - It's sad to say that books have barely progressed in using minority characters. It would be nice to have a different culture or race. I think it'll be sometime before there are minority main characters where race isn't an issue in the book. 3. Historical fiction - It is pretty prominent already, but I just want to see even more of it. Books set in the Victorian time, Ancient Egypt, and the Viking era are my favorite. I wish there were more authors than there already are writing about it. 4. Mod...
